Tracy Levine is a painter and printmaker who works from her purpose built studio and gallery space located in the beautiful area of Arnside and Silverdale in the southern Lake District. Her studio has stunning views over the Kent estuary and to the Lake District hills beyond, a peaceful place to work and a constant source of inspiration for Tracy.
Tracy gained a BA(hons) degree in Fine Art in 1986, before qualifying as a lecturer in 1988. She continued to work in higher education part time alongside her own artistic practice, before deciding to work as a full time artist in 2006.
Tracy has been awarded numerous prizes and awards for her work including first prizes in both the Cumbria OPEN and The Create Longridge competition. Her work has been exhibited widely across cumbria and the North West and beyond. Tracy is also an elected member of the prestigious Lakes Artist Society, and recently won the Peoples Choice award in the society’s most recent 2023 Summer Exhibition with her beautiful painting, ‘The Finest View, Buttermere.’
Tracy’s contemporary paintings capture the spirit of the landscapes that inspire her. Her feelings and awareness of an environment are portrayed on canvas in work that expresses a strong connection and intriguing sense of place. The subjects are mostly places that she knows well and visits often. The intensity of observation, through painting and drawing in situ, is captured in the ensuing studio work. This first hand response gives an immediacy and spontaneity to her work.
Tracy embraces an extensive range of media in her paintings, sometimes including collaged materials. Her printmaking combines original mono printing techniques with painterly elements. The resulting work reflects a distinctively individual style of intuitive semi-abstract work.
