Tim Brown s a Cumbrian artist with a background in architecture, bringing a unique perspective to his bold and atmospheric paintings. After running his own architectural practice for over thirty years, he retired in 2024 to fully dedicate himself to painting - an enduring passion that has evolved over the decades.

His artistic journey began in the mid-90s when he completed a Fine Art Foundation year and an A-level in Photography at Carlisle Art College. Over the years, he has exhibited in Keswick’s Lee Chapman, Fine Designs, and Sharp Edge galleries, as well as the Old Courthouse Gallery in Ambleside, High Head Sculpture Valley, Gray’s Framers, Bookends, and The Fratry at Carlisle Cathedral. His work has also been featured in Cumbria Life and The Cumberland News.

Tim works primarily with acrylics, often incorporating additional materials such as plaster, sand, and fabric to create rich textures. His paintings focus on landscapes, particularly mountain ranges and ridges, alongside architectural subjects. Using a limited yet dramatic palette, he crafts semi-surreal images that are not strict photographic representations but rather expressive interpretations of form and light.

For Tim, the subject of a painting is merely a starting point. Each piece evolves organically, shaped by bold contrasts that invite the viewer into his world of heightened landscapes and architectural influence.

Paintings evolve and develop; the subject is just the starting point
