Visiting the NLG

PARKING
There are multiple paid carparks in Keswick within close walking distance of the gallery. The closet one is Central Carpark, which is less than two minutes away walking through the pedestrian area of town. As of 2024, the cost for three hours in Central Carpark is £5.90. An alternative carpark is the Keswick Rugby Club Car Park, which is eight minutes walk away from the gallery, where all day parking is £4. And the cheapest carpark in Keswick is Crosthwaite Road Car Park, which is at the other end of town, fifteen minutes walk away, £4 all day. For more parking information, see here.

BUS SERVICE
There is a bus service connecting Keswick to the surrounding towns and villages. All busses, including National Express, arrive and depart from Booths, which is an eight minutes walk away from the gallery. The busses coming from/going to Penrith are the X4 and X5 line, and they arrive every hour. Penrith is on the West Coast Mainline from Euston / Glasgow & takes approx 3:40hrs from London - Penrith.

ACCESSIBILITY
Although there is a single step to get into the building, we do have a ramp for people with limited mobility. Unfortunately, however, the second floor’s access is not mobility friendly (other than a railing), but the staff are more than happy to retrieve any items you’d like to see.

DOGS
All well-behaved dogs are welcome. There is a water bowl inside by the stairs, treats behind the counter, and lots of attention from all the staff.

PUBLIC TOILETS
There aren’t any public toilets inside the gallery itself, but there are public toilets just off the main square in the centre of Keswick. These are pay-for toilets, at 50p per visit, and are located near the Bell Close Carpark (down the alley beside Bryson’s off the Main Sq, which is a five minute walk from the gallery).
