Dorothy lives a hop, skip, and a jump up the track from Keswick, just on the flanks of Blencathra. Her home is surrounded on all sides by open fields with vast, expansive mountain views, so it’s little wonder then that much of her artistic output is in landscape oil paintings.

At the age of eight she started drawing lessons at Shipley Art Gallery, moving to Sunderland Art College full time at sixteen. She completed the first of two degrees at the Camberwell College of Art in London.

After returning to Co. Durham, she worked part time as a lecturer at Sunderland Art College. Painting and printmaking have been integrated into a very full life.

Alongside bringing up three children and working for the NHS, Dorothy’s professional artistic practice has very much revolved around painting, printmaking, and etchings although she did establish a weaving shed at Weatheriggs.

Aside from painting at home, Dorothy also maintains a studio in Penrith.
